Customized Lessons to Fit Your Needs

As a passionate and personable teacher, I offer a range of experience both as an active musician and as a vocal coach.

I specialize in contemporary and jazz music but have a sound grounding in classical technique and application, which I strongly believe is essential to developing healthy and professional singers who understand the make-up of their instrument and how to use it effectively within any genre.

About Me

My love for music started from an early age, sparked by family who shared their own musical appreciation and skills, and also by the music and musicians of our Church family.

This journey developed from writing songs on the Church piano to joining community and school choirs, barbershop, chamber music, school productions, songwriting competitions such as “play it strange” and then later taking part of a fantastic jazz workshop through Massey University (which secured my affection for the jazz genre).

Having identified that music was a path I wanted to pursue, I went on from high school to complete a Bachelor of Music through Vision College, majoring in vocals, minoring in songwriting and piano. And then wanting to pursue my love of the genre further, I completed a year of Jazz studies majoring in vocals through Massey University.

By this time, I had enjoyed tutelage from great New Zealand artists such as Patrick Power and Julie Mason. And as a result, studied the application of classical, contemporary and jazz vocal techniques, which enabled me to be an enlightened and versatile performer.

Though I enjoyed performing as a vocalist in local Auckland jazz, blues and soul groups, I also discovered through my studies and unrelated jobs, great joy in teaching and supporting others. This led me to complete my Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) through the University of Auckland and then on to teaching itinerant classes in vocals and ukulele.

After relocating to the Kapiti Coast, and becoming a mum, I’m now back into the swing of booking classes, and gigs (please see my associated performance profile page for further information).
